Machli ka Salan (Fish Curry)



Ingredients:

Fish Marinade:

  • Yogurt 1 & ½ cup
  •  
  • Red chili powder 1 & ½ tbs
  •  
  • Turmeric powder ½ tsp
  •  
  • Coriander powder 1 & ½ tbs
  •  
  • Ginger garlic paste 2 tbs
  •  
  • Salt 2tsp or to taste
  •  
  • Lemon juice 2-3 tbs
  •  
  • Fish (Surmai) 1 kg

Fish Gravy:

  • Oil ¾ cup
  •  
  • Fenugreek seeds ½ tsp
  •  
  • Nigella seeds 1 tsp
  •  
  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  •  
  • Fennel seeds 1 tsp (crushed)
  •  
  • Curry leaves 15-20 leaves
  •  
  • Onion 3 medium (finely chopped)
  •  
  • Water 1-2 cups
  •  
  • Whole spice powder 1 tsp
  •  
  • Fresh coriander (chopped) for garnishing

Directions:

Fish Marinade:

Wash fish properly with water.

In a bowl, add yogurt, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, ginger garlic paste, salt and lemon juice; mix well.

Add fish and give it a good mix.

Marinate fish for 1-2 hours.

Fish Gravy:

In pot, heat oil and add fenugreek seeds, nigella seeds, mustard seeds, fennel seeds and curry leaves, sauté for a minute.

Add onion (finely chopped) and fry until light golden.

Now add marinated fish and cook on a high flame for 5-7 minutes or until oil appears on surface.

Add water, cover and cook on medium low flame for 10-15 minutes.

Lastly add whole spice powder and fresh coriander (chopped) and simmer for 2-3 minutes.

Fish curry is ready.
